Welcome to Highland Annexe
Do you crave relaxation, clean air, beautiful beaches, stunning forests, towering mountains and friendly locals? Then you need to come and stay with us in our two bedroom self catering holiday let in the Scottish Highlands!
We are Maggs and Dan, along with our two children. We moved here from Suffolk , England on Boxing Day 2017. We wanted a different pace of life and a change so after initially wanting to self-build we found this house on the Black Isle and the rest is history
About Us
We have for holiday rental a self-contained annexe that’s attached to our family home. The annexe is separated from us by an internal locked dividing door. You will have your own external entrance.
Dogs
We love dogs at Highland Annexe and it’s the most important factor in any booking to our children!
We have no set maximum number of dogs (and haven’t yet hit a limit). You'll have an enclosed part of the garden that is specifically for our four legged guests and can be accessed directly from the Annexe.
We leave spare bowls, blankets and towels in case you’ve left anything at home and will point you in the right direction for stunning dog walks right from the front door.

Fabulous hosts, friendly, responsive and so accommodating…. loved the welcome pack … plus all the ‘essentials’ (& extras) for self catering… great spaces for our ‘four legged guests’ Anni & Luke…. absolutely 5*Posted on Debbie Bowers15 August 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Highland Annexe is an ideal place to stay. The quality of the fixtures, fittings and attention to detail is excellent. The kitchen is a delight and very well equipped. Mags is the perfect host and her communication is very professional and friendly. I would highly recommend it as an enjoyable place to stay and explore the beautiful area. Very dog friendly too, with an enclosed back garden to use. Many thanks to Mags and Dan.Posted on Tam Jordan5 June 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Coming up from Cornwall with three dogs, we stayed for a week , super dog friendly with a touch of luxury for us humans , well worth the drive ! The area is quiet full of birdsong and well placed for sightseeing . The house was spotless and very well equipped, loved the shower !! Maggs and Dan where very helpful and full of local knowledge which helped us greatly when our van broke down . We would certainly stay there again Exactly what we wanted for a dog friendly peaceful holiday 😊 Rachel and Tam JordanPosted on Stephanie Pirie4 June 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We are just home from our third stay at Highland Annexe with our four border collies. This is, I am ashamed to admit, our first review. Highland Annexe has everything you need for a relaxing home from home stay. The beds are REALLY comfy and the lovely kitchen has everything you could possibly need in a self catering property. There’s a big wet room - with shower gel and shampoo provided - and a separate utility room, which we found really handy for preparing our dogs’ raw food. There’s a secure garden for the dogs and lots of doggy essentials too, like bowls, doggy shampoo, poo bags and towels, in case you forget your own. The property is ideally situated for exploring the Black Isle, with beautiful beaches and lovely woodland walks, great restaurants, farm shops, independent bakeries and two local breweries (both very good!). There is also a large pet supplies store nearby that has everything you could possibly need if you’re a dog owner and have forgotten something that Highland Annexe doesn’t provide, or if you don’t want to cart food / treats a long distance. Maggs, Dan and family are lovely hosts, super friendly and accommodating. They are always open to suggestions from guests of things that might be useful - the optional stair gate between the kitchen and living space is one we are most definitely appreciative of, with four wet, sandy dogs! Unlike some self catering properties, Maggs & Dan provide tea, coffee, cooking oils, spices, foil, washing up liquid etc to make life as easy as possible for their guests. The personalised welcome note and basket of goodies we received on arrival (everyone gets this, not just repeat guests), was an especially nice touch. I feel like Maggs has become more of a friend than a host - I love our wee chats over the fence whenever we stay. It’s a real home from home for us now. We will definitely return and continue to regularly recommend the property to others.Posted on Cathryn Rigby15 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Homemade bread, butter and jam awaiting your arrival. Well enclosed garden for any dogs you take quiet and peaceful lovely stay wouldn’t hesitate to go back again it was our first doggie holiday and our doggie loved it. With plenty dog walks around . Thank you for making us feel welcome xPosted on Sharon Thomson3 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We loved our stay at Highland Annexe, and so did our doggy companion! The owners have thought of everything, and the house is well-equipped and more. We made good use of the board games and barely used the tv. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need - a real home-from-home in a beautiful location. The owners live next door and were on hand any time, and made us feel very welcome. Nearby, our favourite spots were Rosemarkie beach, Fortrose and Beauly.Posted on Walter Woo20 March 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Absolutely loved our stay at the Highland Annexe. I've stayed in alot of places all over the world, this one of the best places I've stayed in. The location is amazing remote and quiet with plenty of places to discover. Large secure garden for our dog and kids to play in. The kitchen was so well equipped couldn't believe the range of utensils and appliances. The kids love their devices and games. The property has a lovely selection of games and jigsaws that they loved and they loved the speed of the WiFi for their online games. Very dog friendly too there was even supplies and items for the dog, blankets, towels and dog bowls. The tall ceilings and open plan lay out make it really lovely for families to spend time in. The heating was lovely too it was so cosy and warm. Shower room and shower pressure were great. Cleanliness was brilliant. The hosts who live next door were so kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and responded quick if we had any questions. Welcome present was so thoughtful too and tasty! The only issue I had with the Highland annexe was we didn't book a longer stay! I will rectify that next time I visit and book a longer stay:)Posted on Rachel Reid5 March 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What an amazing dog friendly stay we had! If you want somewhere where your dogs can feel just as relaxed and comfortable as you do on holiday then this is it. With them being allowed on the couch (with throws down) and bed (with your own bedding on), it really does make the place super dog friendly! Our girl loved the big garden to run around in and the comfy snuggles at night. They also have a utility room with cupboard full of dog towels, dog washing products, bowls etc everything you would need for your dog after a walk. The human guests also loved the holiday home lol. With a comfy couch and bed being the main thing I look for in a trip away this place highly impressed me with both. Also had bonuses such as board games, books, Netflix, Amazon Prime on the TV (using your own login) and the best part being Magg’s homemade bread which was to die for!! The Annexe also had everything you needed in the kitchen (which is something a lot of places don’t have), such as lots of different utensils including scales, cheese graters etc , cling film, plastic boxes for day trips out & tea, coffee, even cooking seasonings! This place has it all. The Annexe is in a great location for walks & beaches with some being as little as a 10 minute drive away. We visited a lot of places whilst we were there such as Loch Ness beach, Rogie Falls, Fairy Glen Falls, The Dolphin Viewing point at Rosemarkie, Ness island & even the local walk from the annexe. Magg’s has a map that has recommended walks and even a farm shop on it which was also amazing for local products and the best soup! As a dog friendly accommodation this place really out did itself. Even for people who don’t have dogs this is an absolute great getaway! I’ve been to a lot of Air bnb, cottage, holiday home type of places, many not dog friendly and this has been by far the best one yet & what a great bonus that it is dog friendly. We will 100% be back :)Posted on Jennifer Molloy24 August 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Truly a wonderful place to stay. The Annex and its facilities are outstanding with all the home comforts you could wish for and more. Maggs and Dan made us so welcome and supplied a wealth of knowledge on places to visit in the area and beyond. Our dogs loved the garden and also loved Maggs, Dan and their lovely girls! Thank you for a lovely stay 💕
