Welcome to Highland Annexe
Do you crave relaxation, clean air, beautiful beaches, stunning forests, towering mountains and friendly locals? Then you need to come and stay with us in our two bedroom self catering holiday let in the Scottish Highlands!
We are Maggs and Dan, along with our two children. We moved here from Suffolk , England on Boxing Day 2017. We wanted a different pace of life and a change so after initially wanting to self-build we found this house on the Black Isle and the rest is history

About Us
We have for holiday rental a self-contained annexe that’s attached to our family home. The annexe is separated from us by an internal locked dividing door. You will have your own external entrance.
Dogs
We love dogs at Highland Annexe and it’s the most important factor in any booking to our children!
We have no set maximum number of dogs (and haven’t yet hit a limit). You'll have an enclosed part of the garden that is specifically for our four legged guests and can be accessed directly from the Annexe.
We leave spare bowls, blankets and towels in case you’ve left anything at home and will point you in the right direction for stunning dog walks right from the front door.

I've stayed in alot of places all over the world, this one of the best places I've stayed in. The location is amazing remote and quiet with plenty of places to discover. Large secure garden for our dog and kids to play in. The kitchen was so well equipped couldn't believe the range of utensils and appliances. The kids love their devices and games. The property has a lovely selection of games and jigsaws that they loved and they loved the speed of the WiFi for their online games. Very dog friendly too there was even supplies and items for the dog, blankets, towels and dog bowls. The tall ceilings and open plan lay out make it really lovely for families to spend time in. The heating was lovely too it was so cosy and warm. Shower room and shower pressure were great. Cleanliness was brilliant. The hosts who live next door were so kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and responded quick if we had any questions. Welcome present was so thoughtful too and tasty! The only issue I had with the Highland annexe was we didn't book a longer stay! I will rectify that next time I visit and book a longer stay:) Rachel Reid5 March 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What an amazing dog friendly stay we had! If you want somewhere where your dogs can feel just as relaxed and comfortable as you do on holiday then this is it. With them being allowed on the couch (with throws down) and bed (with your own bedding on), it really does make the place super dog friendly! Our girl loved the big garden to run around in and the comfy snuggles at night. They also have a utility room with cupboard full of dog towels, dog washing products, bowls etc everything you would need for your dog after a walk. The human guests also loved the holiday home lol. With a comfy couch and bed being the main thing I look for in a trip away this place highly impressed me with both. Also had bonuses such as board games, books, Netflix, Amazon Prime on the TV (using your own login) and the best part being Magg’s homemade bread which was to die for!! The Annexe also had everything you needed in the kitchen (which is something a lot of places don’t have), such as lots of different utensils including scales, cheese graters etc , cling film, plastic boxes for day trips out & tea, coffee, even cooking seasonings! This place has it all. The Annexe is in a great location for walks & beaches with some being as little as a 10 minute drive away. We visited a lot of places whilst we were there such as Loch Ness beach, Rogie Falls, Fairy Glen Falls, The Dolphin Viewing point at Rosemarkie, Ness island & even the local walk from the annexe. Magg’s has a map that has recommended walks and even a farm shop on it which was also amazing for local products and the best soup! As a dog friendly accommodation this place really out did itself. Even for people who don’t have dogs this is an absolute great getaway! I’ve been to a lot of Air bnb, cottage, holiday home type of places, many not dog friendly and this has been by far the best one yet & what a great bonus that it is dog friendly. We will 100% be back :) Jennifer Molloy24 August 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Truly a wonderful place to stay. The Annex and its facilities are outstanding with all the home comforts you could wish for and more. Maggs and Dan made us so welcome and supplied a wealth of knowledge on places to visit in the area and beyond. Our dogs loved the garden and also loved Maggs, Dan and their lovely girls! Thank you for a lovely stay 💕 Elaine Chamberlain5 August 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a wonderful 10 nights up on the Black Isle staying at this immaculate accommodation. Every need had been anticipated and provided for. The hosts, Mags and Dan, were very friendly and helpful but never intrusive. The kitchen was a joy to work in with all the equipment needed to cook, bake or roast. There’s even a popcorn maker! Lovely enclosed garden so the dogs could relax too! It’s a great location for visiting the Highlands. We fully recommend trips to Dornoch (amazing beach), Ullapool (pretty little town with great sea food/gin bar and wonderful scenery on the drive there), all of Loch Ness, Culloden battlefield (very moving), Fort George (just so interesting) and Brodie Castle (very pretty and lots of nice walks in the grounds). The butcher in Fortrose does the most amazing meat and we enjoyed lots of it including venison. The little bakers there do traditional Scots pies made with mutton which is a rarity these days. Black Isle Dairy is worth a visit to get fresh milk, milkshakes, cheese and their own ice creams. This is by far the best dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in that is as good for the humans as for the animals. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone. Just perfect. Kitchen in particular is amazing with everything you could ask for and all high quality. Welcome pack and cupboard staples meant this foodie could cook up a storm. It's a beautiful apartment, very nicely and comfortably furnished, easy to keep clean and warm, quiet and green outside. And the kitchen is amazing and incredibly well equipped, perfect for heating up a pizza and making a proper meal! Maggs and Dan are there and helpful if you need them, and otherwise you wouldn't know they're there. The place is properly dog-friendly too. The location seems to be in the middle of nowhere, but you're a short drive from Inverness, and nearer towns and villages will have everything you need. Black Isle Berries is an excellent place to stock up on wonderful local foods. Can't recommend this highly enough. We'll be back. Everything available is to an exceptionally high end standard with all the best mod cons available and fitted to such a high spec. The extra little touches make it even more special like on arrival freshly made bread, accompanied by butter, jam and milk very welcome after travelling. The handmade soap (I thoroughly recommend) and the ability to answer every question about the area and more, sightseeing tips, things to do, best eating places, all met with a swift and knwledgabĺe response. The Annexe itself is the best secure place to stay with a dog too and with lot's of beautiful dog friendly beaches near by available is priceless. We would not hesitate to thoroughly recommend The Highland Annexe and it's lovely owner's. Jenny Parfitt25 May 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The most multi dog friendly and accommodating property we have ever stayed at. Attentive and thoughtful owners who went above and beyond to help us have the best experience possible. Would recommend in a heartbeat. Outstandingly well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need and to a high standard. Bathroom was luxurious and bedrooms very comfortable. Just arrived home 2 days ago having spent 5 nights with friends and our dog Molly in the Highland Annexe. What a fantastic place to stay! Firstly tho, our hosts Maggs and Dan couldnt have been nicer and welcoming. From the moment we booked everything was so straightforward and we were supplied with loads of info on all aspects of the Annexe, our surroundings, where to eat and things to do thanks to a digital Welcome book they have produced. As for the Annexe itself, it is so spacious bright and very comfortable. The kitchen is fitted out to the highest standard with everything you need. This is also the best dog friendly garden we have come across as it is totally enclosed so need to worry about Molly escaping. We loved Rosemarkie beach and the cafe made delicious breakfast rolls. Tasty homemade cakes and ice cream also on offer! We would definitely return and highly recommend this lovely accommodation. 22nd april 2024 Marcella Greco5 April 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our family of 2 adults, a child and a dog stayed for a week and we loved every single thing about it! The Annexe is super equipped for families with children and dogs, it's very clean and comfortable, it has a big enclosed garden and it felt like being at home! Staying at the Annexe made our holiday extra special since after all our walks and adventures in the Highlands we knew that we had a lovely place to go back to. Maggs was the loveliest host, who cared for our daughter and dog and gave us very useful tips. We would love to go back to the Highland Annexe soon!
